Compassion.

Throughout her 35 years in law and over 17 years on the bench, Judge Deeanne Galvan has worked to build programs that address the root causes of crime while protecting the community's most vulnerable.

Pioneering Intervention Programs

Red Cord Initiative & Prostitution Diversion Court Judge Galvan helped establish Nueces County's "For the Sake of One" program, which offers an alternative path for individuals caught in cycles of abuse, victimization, and sex trafficking. Rather than simply prosecuting, this program connects participants with comprehensive support including substance abuse treatment, domestic violence resources, education, job placement, housing assistance, and round-the-clock counseling. Through partnerships with the Coastal Bend Wellness Foundation, Nueces County District Attorney's Office, CCPD, and Grace House, participants who complete the program have their charges dismissed—giving them a genuine opportunity for a better life.

John School This rehabilitation program addresses the demand side of sex trafficking by educating those who solicit sex services, working to break the cycle that fuels exploitation.

Misdemeanor Mental Impairment Court Judge Galvan established Nueces County's first misdemeanor mental health court, creating tailored programs that address the underlying mental health challenges of offenders and help them become productive members of the community.

Professional Distinctions
Judge Galvan is a Life Fellow Member and Nominating Chair of the Texas Bar Foundation (2022–Present).
This invitation-only honor is extended to just one-third of one percent of Texas attorneys and judges, representing one of the highest recognitions in the State Bar of Texas.

Community Awards

  • NAACP President's Award (2019) for special achievement and distinguished public service.
  • New Life Refuge Ministries Honoree (2017) for helping provide hope and healing to child survivors of sex trafficking.
  • Corpus Christi Hispanic Chamber of Commerce "Mi Casa Es Su Casa" Honoree (2017), raising thousands in educational scholarships for young women.
  • Certificate of Appreciation from the Coastal Bend Coalition Against Modern Day Slavery (2015).
  • CCPD Crime Stoppers Award (2013) for outstanding dedication and service.
  • New York Life Women in Leadership Award (2012).

Giving Back

Judge Galvan serves on the board of the Coastal Bend Women Lawyers Association, where members raise scholarship funds for aspiring attorneys. She is also proud to be part of Driscoll Children's Hospital's Clowns Who Care program, bringing moments of joy to young patients and offering their families a brief respite during difficult times.
